The BA requires completion of two courses of collegiate-level writing instruction. Students who test out of Composition will still need to complete ENGL 102 (or equivalent) and one additional Goal 2.1 course.

2

Visit this website for a list of courses that fulfill the BA Quantitative Reasoning requirement.

3

English majors must choose courses from each of the following 7 categories: Individual Authors or Movements, Literary Theory, English Language or Rhetoric, Transcultural Approaches to Language, Literature, or Writing, Writing, Forms and Genres, and Literary History (2 courses). In addition to the courses taken for the Literary History category, one additional course focusing on literature before 1850, must be taken.

4

Creative writing students must complete workshops in at least two genres.  For the purposes of the Creative Writing Tracks, the four major genres are: Fiction; Poetry; Playwriting, Screenwriting, and/or Scriptwriting; and Creative Non-Fiction.

5

Two ENGL courses must be taken at the 500+ level per major requirements.

6

Choose at least one of the required ENGL 500+ level courses, as required by the major, from the list of approved ENGL courses for Goal 6 of the KU Core.

Please note:

All students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are required to completed 120 total hours of which 45 hours must be at the Jr/Sr (300+) level, and 100 hours must be from within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The same course cannot be used to fulfill more than one KU Core Goal. However, overlap of a KU Core course with a major or degree-specific requirement is allowed. Overlapping is recommended to allow more opportunities to explore other majors and/or minors.
