The BA requires completion of two courses of collegiate-level writing instruction. Students who test out of Composition will still need to complete one additional Goal 2.1 course.

Completion of 6 hours (2 courses) in the Masterpieces of World Literature series: HUM 304, HUM 308, HUM 312.

3 hours (1 course) of additional literature coursework chosen from either the third HUM Masterpiece of World Literature course or any other HUM literature course upon approval from an advisor. Visit the degree requirements tab for an explanation of the type of coursework needed.

6 hours in the literature of a non-English-language European culture in translation (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, etc.). Students possessing a reading knowledge of one of the European languages are strongly encouraged to take one of the literature courses in the original language.

Please note:

All students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are required to completed 120 total hours of which 45 hours must be at the Jr/Sr (300+) level, and 100 hours must be from within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The same course cannot be used to fulfill more than one KU Core Goal. However, overlap of a KU Core course with a major or degree-specific requirement is allowed. Overlapping is recommended to allow more opportunities to explore other majors and/or minors.
