SW 979. Methods of Qualitative Inquiry I. 3 Hours.

This course is the first in a sequence of two courses on qualitative inquiry required for students in the social work Ph.D. program. It provides a detailed overview of knowledge and skills for designing qualitative inquiry. It examines issues in the philosophy of science, paradigms for qualitative inquiry in social work, and a diverse range of methods that flow from these paradigms. It emphasizes principles and procedures for qualitative inquiry design, including an introduction to data collection, analysis, and criteria for establishing methodological rigor (i.e. trustworthiness). Prerequisite: SW 985 and SW 978. LEC.
