Minor in Journalism
The William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications prides itself on providing quality education and job-building skills in a student-focused environment. This 18-credit hour program helps students learn to be effective communicators.
Admission to the Minor
Regular admission deadlines are September 15, February 15 and July 15.
Students should complete the admission application online.
Admission is limited and competitive. Completion of 24 credit hours with a 2.5 cumulative grade-point average and at least a C in JOUR 101 is required. Students may apply during the semester they are completing JOUR 101. Students who have completed journalism courses beyond JOUR 101 with less than a 2.5 Journalism GPA will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Transfer students must earn a minimum KU cumulative GPA of 2.5 during their first semester.
Students must complete JOUR 104 (if admitted to KU Fall 2020 and after) or the Grammar Basics module and exam before taking JOUR 304. Students must earn a grade of C (2.0) or better in JOUR 101, 104, 300, 302, and 304 to fulfill minor requirements.
Requirements for the Minor
A total of 18 hours is required for the minor. Students are allowed a choice of additional elective hours, not to exceed a total of 24 JOUR credit hours. The journalism minor requires a 2.5 GPA in journalism and a 2.5 cumulative GPA at KU.
