The Master of Science in Information Technology degree focuses on the applied aspects of technologies and practices used to provide digital services to customers within industry. These focus areas range from telecommunications, software development, cyber security, systems management, policy construction, and legal/regulatory concerns around tech use in an evolving world. Graduate students are expected to learn and demonstrate competence in solving real world problems with real world technologies. Additionally, courses in this program require students to organize into work groups, complete collective assignments, and practice peer leadership to accomplish goals. Graduates of this program should be capable of analyzing and solving complex technological issues and feel comfortable assuming managerial or executive roles in industry.

This degree program is primarily delivered at the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, KS. Some of the courses in this program are delivered online, but the program may not be able to be completed entirely online.
Admissions
In addition to all University requirements for admission to graduate studies, admission to the MS in Information Technology requires:
- An undergraduate degree in a computing or related discipline with a GPA of 2.75 or better*
- At least two years of practical work experience in IT or GRE scores as follows: 146+ verbal, 155+ quantitative (mean GRE: 152 verbal, 163 quantitative).
*Prospective students who who have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a non-IT or non-computer-related discipline and at least four years of IT-related experience may be admitted into the MSIT program after they take the following preparatory classes (or their equivalents at another institution) as non-degree-seeking undergraduate students before beginning their graduate courses in the program and earn a minimum grade of C:
- ITEC 302 Python, Algorithms, and Data Structures
- ITEC 303 Discrete Math for Information Technology Professionals
- ITEC 316 Database Applications
- ITEC 422 Computer Networks
- MATH 107 Introductory Statistics
Prospective students will need to consult with an advisor and the program director to develop a personalized degree plan. Any of the above courses may be waived by the program director if they have completed equivalent courses at another institution. Email professionalstudies@ku.edu to arrange an appointment.
The undergraduate preparatory courses will not count towards the required 30 credits to graduate in the MSIT program.
