Minor in Pre ASL-English Interpreting

The Pre-Interpreting Minor is an 21-credit-hour program designed for undergraduate students with advanced ASL proficiency who are interested in pursuing a career in signed language interpreting. Grounded in the recognition that interpreter education requires advanced ASL fluency and foundational cognitive processing competencies, the Pre-Interpreting Minor provides students with the essential knowledge, applied language use, and conceptual frameworks that underlie interpreting practice. Through coursework emphasizing the interpreter’s role, psychological effects, co-construction of meaning, and the dynamics of mediated communication, students begin developing the readiness necessary for interpreting education.
